Taken on ordinary days, not the one perfect afternoon in June.

Things to Do

Why people come here

Drive times are from the front gate, in summer, without traffic.

Rafters running a rapid on the Arkansas River

Rafting the Arkansas

Outfitters 5 minutes away

Browns Canyon is the busiest stretch of whitewater in the country for good reason. Half-day trips leave at 9 and 1. We'll call and book for you at the desk.

Hikers on a mountain trail above treeline

Fourteeners

Trailheads 25–40 minutes

Mount Princeton, Yale, and Columbia all start within a short drive. Ask at the desk for the current road conditions before you commit to a 4am start.

Steam rising from an outdoor hot spring pool

Hot springs

20 minutes

Mount Princeton Hot Springs has creekside pools you can sit in with the river running past. Go on a weekday evening if you can.

Main street of a small mountain town

Downtown Buena Vista

15 minutes

Groceries, a hardware store that stocks RV parts, three good breakfast spots, and a brewery with a patio on the river.

Good to Know

Questions and house rules

The things guests ask before booking, answered plainly.

What are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 1pm, check-out is 11am. Arriving late is fine — call ahead and we'll leave your site number and gate code on the office door. Early arrivals can park in the overflow lot and use the facilities while you wait.

How big a rig can you take?

Pull-throughs handle 45 feet comfortably. Riverside sites top out around 38 feet because of the turn at the bottom of the loop. If you're towing, tell us the combined length when you book and we'll put you somewhere that works.

Is the Wi-Fi actually usable?

Yes. Starlink backhaul with access points through the park, so you can work from your site or stream in the evening. Cell service is spotty here — Verizon is workable, AT&T is not.

What's the dog policy?

Dogs are welcome, two per site, leashed anywhere outside the fenced run. Please pick up. We don't have breed restrictions, but a dog that barks all day when you leave will get a knock on the door.

Can we have a campfire?

Every site has a fire ring and fires are allowed unless the county has a ban on — we post the current status at the office and on the gate. Buy firewood here rather than bringing your own; it keeps beetles out of the trees.

What's the cancellation policy?

Cancel more than 7 days out and you get a full refund. Inside 7 days we refund everything but the first night. No-shows are charged the full reservation. Weather is not a reason we can refund — we'd love to, but the site was held for you.

Are you open year-round?

April 15 through October 31. Water gets shut off for the winter after that. A handful of cabins stay open for hunting season by arrangement — call and ask.
